Gossip Corner

Do you have a gossip corner inside your home
A place to spread rumors or create your own
A place where prattle can be spread around town
A place that allows others to drag someone down

Unfounded gossip can travel in many directions
Overcoming obstructions and evading correction
It can negate happiness and put sorrow in its place
It can erase a smile and put tears on someone's face

Smearing others and tarnishing their reputations
Should be left to those of a younger generation
We who are older and are supposed to be mature
Should not abet in spreading this kind of manure

Quell the gossip that tries to enter into your home
Do not give it more legs on which to further roam
Replace it with mentions of truly honorable deeds
And demonstrate to others your personal integrity

A Greater Vision

Even the light of the sun itself gives way to the black of night,

But the radiance of love will forever shine bright;

To see that light within each person's face,

Is to imbue life with beauty few mortals embrace;

Why do so many see only the outer shell,

And not the spirit of God that within each one dwells?

For if love rules your heart and truth guides your vision,

You'll find order amongst chaos, oneness amidst division;

If you would see God and this vision share,

Just turn deep within, for God is already there;

With each person I meet, may I recognize,

The glory of God that shines forth through their eyes.

New Poems for 05

Have you ever felt like you knew someone a long, long time ago, Another place, another time, a friendship of the souls?
Two people who share a bond for reasons neither know, A feeling that they were friends, a long, long time ago?

Did they stumble onto each other by pure circumstance, Or was it fate and destiny that played a certain hand?
Two souls intertwined, they are worlds apart, But the soul, it knows no difference, in matters of the heart.

Somehow they are drawn together, fate has brought them back, Each living worlds apart, they journey separate paths.
When this life is over, and a new life begins, Their souls will find each other, two souls that we call friends.

A Friend's Greeting

I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me;
I'd like to be the help that you've been always glad to be;
I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day As you have meant, old friend of mine,
to me along the way.
I'd like to do the big things and the splendid things for you,
To brush the gray from out your skies and leave them only blue; I'd like to say the kindly things that I so oft have heard, And feel that I could rouse your soul the way that mine you've stirred.
I'd like to give you back the joy that you have given me, Yet that were wishing you a need I hope will never be; I'd like to make you feel as rich as I, who travel on Undaunted in the darkest hours with you to lean upon.
I'm wishing at this time that I could but repay A portion of the gladness that you've strewn along my way; And could I have one wish this year, this only would it be: I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me.
Lia Fail

Artist of the week

its been forever since i last did an update on my blog and my personal site anyway here is your artist of the week..

When her debut album, What's the 411?, hit the street in 1992, critics and fans alike were floored by its powerful combination of modern R&B with an edgy rap sound that glanced off of the pain and grit of Mary J. Blige's Yonkers, NY childhood. Called alternately the new Chaka Khan or new Aretha Franklin, Blige had little in common stylistically with either of those artists, but like them helped adorn soul music with new textures and flavors that inspired a whole generation of musicians. With her blonde hair, self-preserving slouch and combat boots, Blige was street-tough and beautiful all at once, and the record company execs who profited off of her early releases did little to dispel the bad-girl image that she earned as she stumbled through the dizzying first days of her career. As she exorcised her personal demons and softened her style to include sleek designer clothes, she remained a hero to thousands of girls growing up in the same kinds of rough places she came from. Blige reinvented her career again and again by shedding the bad habits and bad influences that kept her down; by the time her fourth album, Mary, was released in 1999, she had matured into an expressive singer able to put the full power of her voice behind her music, while still reflecting a strong urban style. With her fifth album, No More Drama, it wasn't just Blige's style that shone through the structures set up for her by songwriters and producers, it was her own vision -- spiritual, emotional, personal, and full of wisdom, and reflected an artist who was comfortable with who she was and how far she had come.

Born in the Bronx on January 11, 1971, Blige spent the first few years of her life in Savannah, GA, before moving with her mother and older sister to the Schlobam housing projects in Yonkers, NY. Her rough life there produced more than a few scars, physical and otherwise, and Blige dropped out of high school her junior year, instead spending time doing her friends' hair in her mother's apartment and hanging out. When she was at a local mall in White Plains, NY, she recorded herself singing Anita Baker's "Caught Up in the Rapture," into a karaoke machine. The resulting tape was passed by Blige's stepfather to Uptown Records' CEO Andre Harrell. Harrell was impressed with Blige's voice and signed her to sing backup for local acts like Father MC. In 1991, however, Sean "Puffy" Combs took Blige under his wing and began working with her on What's the 411?, her debut album. Combs had a heavy hand in What's the 411?, along with producers Dave Hall, Mark Morales, and Mark Rooney, and the stylish touches that they added to Blige's unique vocal style created a stunning album that bridged the gap between R&B and rap in a way that no female singer had before. Uptown tried to capitalize on the success of {What's the 411?} by issuing a remixed version of it a year later, but it was only a modest success creatively and commercially.

Her 1995 follow-up, My Life, again featured Combs' handiwork, and if it stepped back stylistically from its urban roots by featuring less of a rap sound, it made up for it with its subject matter. My Life was full of ghetto pathos and Blige's own personal pain shone through like a beacon. Her rocky relationship with fellow Uptown artist K-Ci Hailey likely contributed to the raw emotions on the album. The period following the recording of My Life was also a difficult time professionally for Blige as she severed her ties with Combs and Uptown, hired Suge Knight as a financial advisor and signed with MCA.

1997's Share My World marked the beginning of Blige's creative partnerships with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The album was another hit for Blige and debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. Critics soured somewhat on its more conventional soul sound, but Blige's fans seemed undaunted. By the time her next studio album, Mary, came out in 1999, the fullness and elegance of her new sound seemed more developed, as Blige exuded a classic soul style aided by material from Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill. Mary made it obvious that the ghetto fabulous style and more confrontational aspects of her music were gone, while the emotive power still remained.

That power also helped carry the more modern-sounding 2001 release, No More Drama, a deeply personal album that remained a collective effort musically yet reflected more of Blige's songwriting than any of her previous efforts. The Mary J. Blige on No More Drama seemed miles away from the flashy kid on What's the 411?, yet it was still possible to see the path through her music that produced an older, wiser, but still expressive artist. 2003's Love and Life reunited her with P. Diddy, who produced the majority of the album.

now mary is back better than ever which most critics and fans say is one of her best "The Breakthrough" in stores now.

When Natasha Bedingfield says she is ready for her U.S. close-up, she is not kidding. According to Sony BMG, she sold, internationally, 1.5 million copies of her 2004 debut album, “Unwritten” — and now she has her eyes set firmly on America.

To prove that she means business, Bedingfield will spend a lot of time stateside. She is currently on a four-week promotional trek and will move temporarily to Los Angeles in September.

“People need to have face time with me,” the British artist tells Billboard. “With all the imaging, packaging and reality TV today, people think they’re always getting conned. I want them to know that with me, they’re getting the real deal.”

Welcome to Bedingfield’s world. With the Aug. 2 release of “Unwritten” in the States, American pop enthusiasts will start getting to know this “real deal.”

Singer/songwriter Bedingfield is already making waves with the disc’s lead single. The hip-hop-flavored “These Words,” which reached No. 1 in 12 countries, is a top 20 hit on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart.

Since the spring, “These Words” has been steadily building momentum — particularly at mainstream top 40 radio stations. Mike Preston of KBKS Seattle, an early supporter of the track, says response was immediate. Listeners called asking about the “I love you” song.

Catchy chorus and all, the track has been a consistent top 10 request at KBKS, adds Preston, who calls Bedingfield a cross between Nelly Furtado and Lauryn Hill. “There is a lot of depth on ‘Unwritten.’ Natasha’s sound is fresh.”

None of this is lost on Bedingfield, who co-wrote all but one song on the album — and whose songs have appeared on such soundtracks as “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”

“Too many artists mimic things that are already good,” she says. “Why mimic Madonna when there’s already a Madonna?”

For its U.S. debut, “Unwritten” has been slightly altered.

“Stumble” and “The One That Got Away” replace “I’m a Bomb” and “Frogs and Princes,” while “These Words” and the title track were remixed. Additionally, “Drop Me in the Middle” features British female rapper Estelle instead of D12’s Bizarre, who was featured on the international version.

Bedingfield, whose brother Daniel is also a pop hitmaker, and Sony Music senior vice president Keith Naftaly reformatted and remastered the album for American ears. In the months since the international release, Bedingfield says, she “had more time to work out who I am.”

At the beginning, “you step into these shoes that don’t quite fit,” she continues. “But then you learn how to walk in them. This year, with my fresh start in America, the shoes fit perfectly.”

Because Bedingfield is not a pop vehicle for a producer-driven project, Naftaly says it was important to highlight the edgy, gritty side to her songwriting, as well as “an intelligence that’s beyond the typical prototype of slick British pop.”

Bedingfield’s reach is extending to MTV, VH1, Yahoo and AOL, where the Chris Milk-directed video for “These Words” is being championed.

The track has also been a top 10 pop download at Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store.

In the fall, Electronic Arts will release a new James Bond video game featuring Bedingfield as a Bond girl. Epic hopes to have her music included in the game.

Regardless of what happens next, Bedingfield feels she has already come far: “For an English person from a little island, it’s exciting to see how people are reacting to my song in the U.S. For me, it’s already quite massive.”

Decided to do it early in case i dont come on tommorrow

The winner of Fox TV's first American Idol: The Search for a Superstar competition, during the summer of 2002 Kelly Clarkson went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer performing for an audience of millions of viewers. One of the show's most naturally gifted singers, the 20 year-old Burleson, TX native's vocal talents were discovered when she was in seventh grade, when her school's choir teacher heard her singing and urged Clarkson to join the choir. After high school, Clarkson cultivated her voice and went to Hollywood to make her name; she appeared as an extra on an episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch but no other opportunities materialized. Upon returning to Burleson, Clarkson worked at a movie theater, promoted Red Bull energy drinks and ultimately worked as a cocktail waitress at a comedy club before entering the American Idol contest. One of 10,000 aspiring singers, Clarkson distinguished herself not only with her big, surprisingly mature voice, but also with her down-to-earth charm and sense of humor: at one of her auditions, she switched places with judge Randy Jackson, who did an impromptu version of R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Over the course of the 13-week show, her consistently strong performances of songs like "Respect," "Natural Woman," "Stuff Like That There" and "Without You" earned Clarkson enough audience votes to claim one of the contest's two finalist positions. After singing "A Moment Like This" and "Before Your Love," both of which were written for the show, Clarkson won the American Idol contest with 58 percent of the audience's votes. In addition to the show's prize of a $1 million recording contract with RCA, Clarkson secured a deal with Creative Artists Agency and several bookings, including the national American Idol tour and a performance of the national anthem at the September 11 commemoration at Washington, DC's Lincoln Memorial. Despite her newfound fame, Clarkson opted to remain in Texas rather than move to New York or Los Angeles. Her first single, A Moment Like This, was released just two weeks after she won the contest and quickly earned platinum sales. Clarkson's debut full-length Thankful was released in spring of 2003, just in time to coincide with the second season of American Idol and right before the American Idol movie, From Justin to Kelly. Breakaway followed in 2004

Kelly also new album breakaway is still currently on the billboard charts with popular singles behind these hazel eyes and since you been gone and tells mtv the next single will be because of you prouduced by ben moody.

The movie started off with a brother and sister living in hollywood they have a car accident and in the process try to save the girl from getting eaten but get bitten in the process of course strange things start happening people start dying and it has an unusual ending at the end. it was kinda weird though i couldnt figure out whether it was a horror movie or comedy if you watch the movie you'll see what im talking about.
